Christie makes these peanut butter cookies all the time. These cookies are my dads favorite treats in the world. The messiness of creating these is always fun especially if its with another person.

Set your oven to 350 degrees and have a baking pan.

The 9 ingredients are:

  • ½ cups of shortening

  • stick of butter

  • 1 cup crunchy peanut butter

  • 2 cups of sugar

  • 1 cup of plain flower

  • 1 ½ self-rising flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 well beaten egg

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla.

  1. Add the cup of plain flour, 1 ½ cups of self-rising flour, 2 cups of sugar, and baking soda to a bowl. Blend them well with your hands.

  2. Put in the stick of butter, ½ cup of Crisco, one well beaten egg, and 1 cup of crunchy peanut butter.

  3. Lather your hands in shortening.

  4. Mix everything with your hands and add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.

5. Spread some shortening on a baking pan and make as many medium sized balls as possible and spread them evenly apart from each other on the pan.

6. Press on each ball with a spatula in a crisscross pattern.

7. Place the pan on the middle shelf of the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes.

8. Take them out and let them cool for a reasonable amount of time.

History of Peanut Butter Cookies

Peanut butter cookies have a rich history that dates to the late 19th century when peanut butter was first popularized in the United States. In 1884, Marcellus Gilmore Edson patented a process for making peanut butter, but it was not until the 1920s that recipes for peanut butter cookies began to appear in cookbooks. The cookies gained popularity during the Great Depression, as peanut butter was an affordable source of protein. The classic crisscross pattern on top, made by pressing a fork into the dough, became a signature technique, adding a distinct visual appeal. Over the decades, peanut butter cookies have remained a beloved treat, enjoyed for their rich flavor and comforting texture.
